Referrals

Referring a Student to Hanna Academy

How It Works

Who Can Refer a Student

Referrals are accepted from school districts, SELPAs, and education professionals.

Hanna Academy accepts student referrals from Local Education Agencies (LEAs), including school districts and SELPAs. Professionals who are actively involved in a student’s IEP process may also initiate referrals through their LEA. We are certified as a nonpublic school (NPS) and able to serve students who require specialized support to gain educational benefit in an alternative setting.

Our Process

Referrals, Not Admissions

We do not accept direct applications from families. Instead, all prospective students must be referred by their LEA. Referrals should include a Release of Information (ROI), the most recent IEP, psychoeducational evaluation, and transcripts, if available. If the student appears to be a fit, we schedule a tour and follow up with a Transition IEP meeting to finalize enrollment.

Step 1:

IEP in Place

Student Receives an IEP

A student is identified as needing special education services and receives an Individualized Education Program (IEP) through their home school.

Step 2:

District Exhausts Supports

LEA Explores All In-District Options

The school district must attempt all available supports and placements within the least restrictive environment (LRE) before considering a nonpublic school.

Who We Serve

Our Ideal Fit

We work best with students who qualify under emotional disturbance, specific learning disability, other health impairment, or autism. We cannot serve students with a history of arson, sexual predation, severe elopement, or those requiring intensive round-the-clock crisis supervision for safety.
